A + ne? / Noun + 呢?

呢 (ne) follow-up questions

After answering a question about yourself, use Noun + 呢? to throw the same question back — it means 'and ~?' / 'what about ~?' without repeating the whole sentence. 呢 can also follow a noun on its own to ask 'where is ~?' when the location is obvious from context, e.g. 我的手机呢? (Where's my phone?).

Examples

  • 我很好,你呢?
    hěn hǎo, ne

    I'm good, and you?

  • 我喝茶,你呢?
    chá, ne

I'm drinking tea, what about you?

  • 妈妈呢?
    ma ne

    Where's Mom?
