Don't confuse with

手 (shǒu, hand) ends with an extra diagonal stroke crossing near the bottom, like fingers splayed open. 毛 (máo, fur/hair) instead ends in one smooth curling hook with no crossing stroke, like a single wisp of hair or a curling tail.
