Don't confuse with
大 (dà, big) is a person standing with arms stretched wide — three strokes, nothing extra. 太 (tài, too/very) adds a dot at the bottom right, below the legs. 犬 (quǎn, dog) adds a dot too, but at the top right, near the arm, like a raised leg or tail. Dot low = too much (太); dot high = the dog (犬).
